| INSTITUTION OF THE EUCHARIST: The chalice or cup is used in Christian art as a symbol of the Eucharist and of the blood Jesus shed for the forgiveness of sins. The imagery on this window reminds us that in the Eucharist, Jesus is the body that's broken and the cup that's poured out for our salvation. Jesus himself is represented by the host and the large chalice in the center of the window. The twelve smaller cups represent the twelve Apostles, who were present at the Last Supper when Jesus instituted the Eucharist. Note that one of these small cups is upside down; that one represents Judas, the Apostle who betrayed Jesus. | |
