Saint Therese of Lisieux is sometimes called the Little Flower.  St. Therese, arguably one of the most popular saints, entered a Carmelite monastery at the age of 15 and died of tuberculosis when she was only 24.  The statue depicts her dressed in the traditional Carmelite habit.  She is holding a crucifix because she would often meditate upon the sufferings of Christ.  The roses in her arms reflect her promise that "after my death, I will send down a shower of roses."  Many people who have petitioned God for some favor through St. Therese's intercession have reported the mysterious appearance of roses in answer to their prayers.
