| Saint Charles Borromeo was the Archbishop of Milan and Papal Secretary of State under Pope Pius IV. He is usually depicted in his cardinal robes, carrying a cross with a rope across his neck, which recalls his work during the plague. Throughout his priestly work, Charles Borromeo was instrumental in instituting the reforms resulting from the Council of Trent and bringing back lapsed Catholics to the Church during the Catholic Reformation. His feast day is held on November 4 and he is the patron saint of learning and the arts. | |
